Some people can be sensitive to the smell of natural rubber. It will become less noticeable after the mat has been aired out and wiped down for a few days, and will continue to dissipate over time.

    In Love With This Mat!

Posted by Chrissy Scavezze on Sep 5th 2023

I’ve had the performance mat for over 10 years and I have loved it. Although, I figured as a long time yoga teacher and practitioner, it was time to try a new mat and it’s this gorgeous Para Rubber Mat in the beautiful Alpine color. Can I just say, I’m in love! This mat has the greatest grip I have ever laid hands on, and the color itself makes me feel like a mermaid. You can feel the quality of the mat in your practice and it feels like my new mat will be with me for many more years of yoga!

    Comfortable But Not That Grippy

Posted by Al on Jul 29th 2021

I bought this mat looking for a high-grip but I find myself slipping around on the mat even at the beginning of my practice. Mat has great cushion and a pretty pattern and good reviews from others so not sure if this is just a product defect.

    Nonbeliever a Believer

I didn't want to think that a semi expensive yoga mat would be as good as it is, but it is. I wish so badly that I would have purchased this mat before my YTT, but am so glad I have it now for my personal practice.

    Excellent Quality

Posted by Jason on Aug 19th 2020

I bought this for my girlfriend for her birthday, and she loves it. The mat is beautiful and thick enough to support her knees on the hard wood floor. The material quality is really nice and doesn't have the chemical smell that you get from cheap gym-provided mats.

Great Product, Cushions The Body Very Well!

Posted by Rosie on Aug 19th 2020

Purchased this mat to use in our garage, which has a cement floor. This mat nicely cushions the body and my knees/elbows/ankles don't feel the stress/pain they did with my old yoga mat. Would highly recommend this product!

Glad I Went With This One

Posted by Yennifer on Jun 22nd 2020

I spent weeks debating over which mat to order when I was ready to upgrade my $12 TJMaxx mat that was starting to fall apart (my cat helped a bit with that). I finally picked HM because of the sticky-ness claims and the eco-friendly aspect. The mat is indeed sticky - I practice on my back porch in 90+ degree heat and heavy humidity and I haven't slid once. I also don't mind the smell - it is strong and the first time I used the mat, I smelled like rubber. However, over time the smell has dissipated and I think it'll wear off more with even more use. It's nice and cushion-y which is good because my porch is concrete and I like the extra support. The color is really pretty as well and I'm glad the lotus color has more striations than it seems like some of the other ones do. It's nice to have a pretty design to look at while I'm holding a really long chaturanga. Overall, this seems like a worthwhile investment, that will hopefully pay off over time.

    Smelly, Grippy, Pricy

Posted by Caitie on Jun 9th 2020

The rubber smell is strong, the grip is stronger than any other mat I’ve used but I’m a sweaty betty so I still lose my grip here and there. For the price, I’m not sure... this is an expensive mat and I love that it’s eco friendly but my hands and feet stink like rubber when I’m done. I’m not positive I’d make the same choice if I’d been shopping in the store and could have seen it/smelled it in person.

    Nice

It is a great mat - lays flat, completely non slip, beautiful to look at. Not for travel since it is on the heavy side.

    Some Disappointments

Posted by Washington Yogini on May 2nd 2020

I've been practicing for 45+ years. This mat was not love at first practice. It's comfortable underfoot, provides good cushioning for my older joints, and is totally non-skid for my intermediate Hatha practice. But I find the off-gassing rubber odor uncomfortable and impossible to ignore, especially in supine asanas. The color streaking in juniper green is almost non-existent. I'll save my old mat for travel and class practices; this new mat is quite heavy in comparison.
