Some people can be sensitive to the smell of natural rubber. It will become less noticeable after the mat has been aired out and wiped down for a few days, and will continue to dissipate over time.

    Amazing!

It's a heavy mat but I enjoy the durability and overall feel. I got the purple color and it is beautiful. I really enjoy the eco-friendly aspect as most mainstream mats bypass this part. Thanks, Hugger Mugger!

    In Love...Most of the Time

Posted by Nicole on Apr 2nd 2018

I read A LOT of reviews about this mat before purchasing it (because it is a little pricey). Some were very bad and some were very good, I have to say I’ll be joining the very good reviews! When I first unrolled the mat it did have a distinct rubber smell, but I found that the smell didn’t bother me after airing out my mat for a day or so. It does tend to leave that gross latex/rubber smell on my hands after I’ve finished my yoga session, but this isn’t a problem since I usually shower right after. I’ve found that the grip on this mat is hit or miss. Some days I won’t be able to maintain even a warrior pose and other days I’ll be perfectly fine. I’m not sure what the factor is that causes me to slip some days and be fine others, but I would say the grip holds up the majority of the time so I am still happy with the mat. I’m in LOVE with the design of the mat! It came just as advertised and it makes me very excited to do my yoga everyday.

    Worst yoga mat ever!

Posted by loverules on Feb 10th 2017

I bought this mat for my husband for Christmas. He has been practicing yoga for over 40 yrs and heats our bathroom daily to practice. His old mat was stinky and slippery when he practiced, so I thought I would get him a non-slip mat, which I thought this was, and one that would not absorb the sweat. This mat is a VERY heavy rubber mat (my bathroom still smells like new tires and its been over a month), it is more slippery than any other mat he has used. It is very hard when you lay on it, no real cushion! He told me the other day it is the worst mat he has ever used. It was quite expensive at $80 and NOT WORTH it on any level! And it still stinks of strong rubber! Makes me sad, as I have purchased many things from Hugger Mugger, as there prices are high the quality has always been there, but it has been several years, quality has certainly diminished!

Not Slippery and Plenty of Cushion

I love this mat for vinyasa yoga, I can count on it to keep my hands and feet in place even if I get sweaty.

Like the material and cushion, but not the width

Posted by Kristin on Jun 27th 2016

As a yoga teacher, long-time student, and former studio owner, I have tried many yoga mats. My favorites have always been wider than the average mat, but I wanted to try something with a but more cushion. When I excitedly rolled out my new Para Rubber Yoga Mat, I was disappointed by the comparative narrowness of the mat. Maybe I have been spoiled, but when I rolled up my mat and placed it upright next to three very well-rated mats from two different brands, this mat was clearly not as wide - not even close. I can't imagine someone with shoulders wider than mine being able to use this mat and optimal correct alignment. Hugger Mugger, add at least an inch to each long edge, and you may be in the lineup for "favorite mat". The material is great (although I don't practice particularly "sweaty" yoga), and the cushion is wonderful if you need something a bit more than most mats offer. For me, though, the Para mat falls short.

    Best mat I've used.

Posted by yogakitty on Jun 8th 2016

I've been practicing Iyengar-style yoga for more than 30 years, since before anyone practiced on nonskid mats. I've tried many different options and the Para Rubber Mat is my all-time favorite. I love that it's made from sustainable natural rubber, and for me, the grip is the best of any mat I've tried.

    Slippery when wet

Posted by Gabriel on Apr 23rd 2016

Slippery little bugger. Yeah, it's stinky but I like it. Great quality materials but holding a downward dog for an extended period of time with sweaty palms is an unpleasant experience. You will find yourself repositioning yourself multiple times. I had high expectations for this.
